Monthly flying stars, explained

Xuan Kong Flying Stars (Xuan Kong Fei Xing) follows nine stars as they move through the nine palaces of the Lo Shu square: once a year for the annual chart and once a month for the monthly chart. Each star has an element and a traditional character. 1 White, 4 Green, 6 White, 8 White and 9 Purple are usually read as supportive; 2 Black, 3 Jade, 5 Yellow and 7 Red as stars to calm rather than activate.

The grid above shows the whole house for the year and the month, with a short traditional tip for every sector. Choose a sector, such as the direction of your front door or bedroom, to see both stars for it at once.

Why the months don't match the calendar

Flying-star months follow the solar terms, the same calendar used in BaZi. The Tiger month (month 1) starts at Li Chun around 4 February and the Rat month (month 11) starts at Major Snow around 7 December. The start of a Gregorian month therefore usually still belongs to the previous flying-star month, which is why every page lists its exact dates.

Monthly pages such as /tools/flying-stars/2026-12 contain no personal data, so they can be shared and bookmarked. Flying stars describe the time layer of a building; for the personal layer, start with the Kua number calculator. Both are traditional cultural practices, not building, health or financial advice.
